“Experience, Strength & Hope”

“Experience, Strength & Hope” is a powerful collection of 56 stories from the first three editions of the Alcoholics Anonymous “Big Book.” Over time, the stories in “The Big Book” have been changed to keep them relevant. These changes are done with great care and infrequently. Thankfully, all the stories are preserved here, offering readers a deeper understanding of AA’s early days and the people whose recovery helped shape the movement.

RECOVERY PODCASTLAND
From Wounds to Wisdom: Healing, Sobriety, and Reinvention with Sabyn Mayfield

On this vibrant installment of The Sober Curator podcast, host Alysse Bryson sits down with multi-hyphenate creative Sabyn Mayfield: musician, filmmaker, USA Boxing Masters Champion, and CEO of The Bridge to Recovery. While their conversation kicks off with a light-hearted nod to working carnival and fair gigs (and a brave adolescent stint in a cotton candy booth), it quickly dives beneath the surface. Together, Alysse and Sabyn unearth the complexities of recovery, the true meaning of healing from “wounds” rather than “trauma,” and how authentic living becomes the ultimate reward of sobriety.

Jason Biggs Marks Over 7 Years of Sobriety

Jason Biggs Show GIF by Outmatched

Jason Biggs, best known for his role in “American Pie,” has been sober since 2017, celebrating over seven years of recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. His journey toward sobriety was not linear — he first attempted to get sober in 2012, but it wasn’t until a move from Los Angeles to New York and the deep emotional weight of his substance abuse that he committed fully to his recovery.

He marked his one-year sobriety anniversary in October 2018 with a heartfelt Instagram post, calling it one of the proudest accomplishments of his life and encouraging others not to feel ashamed for seeking help.

During the height of his addiction, Biggs shared harrowing stories — most memorably, climbing into a trash can at 4 a.m. to retrieve discarded cocaine, a moment he now sees as one of his lowest.

The chaotic lifestyle that once involved hiding alcohol abuse from his wife, Jenny Mollen, and using substances to disconnect from reality has since been replaced by a life grounded in honesty, family, and mental clarity. Now sober for more than seven years, Biggs speaks openly about his recovery, emphasizing that the journey is hard but absolutely worth it — and that no one has to face it alone.

The Modern Day Post-It Note

Like how Carrie accuses Berger of trying too hard not to be the bad guy, that hits hard. Because often, when someone is more concerned with how they’ll be perceived than how they treat you, they choose the path of least resistance. A Post-It note. Silence. A half-hearted explanation, months (in my case, years) too late. It’s not just about ending the relationship. It’s about choosing self-preservation over your partner’s dignity.

Classy Problems: Don’t Blame Others

Blame gives me certainty at the cost of my own agency. It makes me feel right and someone or something else wrong.

Blame feels good and is based on a lie. The lie prevents me from seeing where I said yes, where I consented, where I became part of the pattern.
