Diving into Functional Beverages with SENTIA GABA

If you’ve found your way to an NA bottle shop, you’ve likely discovered the world of functional beverages. There are various subcategories of functional beverages, including adaptogens and nootropics. Adaptogenics use plant-based ingredients to help the body resist stress, improve sleep, regulate moods, or modify the inflammation response. Nootropics are chemical substances that purportedly help with mental acuity, memory, and mental stamina.

Party Girl” by Anna David: A Glittering Descent and a Gutsy Climb Back Up

Let’s be honest. If cocaine and celebrities are your idea of a good time — but so is growth, redemption, and finally getting your damn life together — “Party Girl” by Anna David is the rollercoaster ride your sober-serious soul didn’t know it needed. Originally released in 2004, this novel is like a relic from the pre-Instagram wild west of Hollywood debauchery, and yet, somehow, it’s still fresher than a crisp glass of sparkling water with a splash of lime.

Ed Sheeran Found Sobriety When Becoming a Father

ed sheeran elton john tribute GIF by Recording Academy / GRAMMYs

Ed Sheeran is celebrating a major personal milestone: several years of sobriety after making life-altering changes in his early 30s. The chart-topping singer-songwriter, who once lived the "party boy" lifestyle with heavy drinking and drug use, revealed that the turning point came in 2020, just before the birth of his first daughter, Lyra. After an honest conversation with his wife, Cherry Seaborn, Sheeran decided to quit drinking hard liquor and smoking for good, realizing he didn’t want to risk being intoxicated during life's most important moments. "I don't ever want to be pissed holding my kid. Ever, ever," Sheeran said.

Since then, Sheeran has embraced a healthier lifestyle, inspired not only by his growing family but also by the tragic death of his best friend, Jamal Edwards, from drug-related causes. While he has acknowledged that he may not remain completely sober forever, today he maintains a mindful relationship with alcohol and remains drug-free, crediting his sobriety for his renewed focus, youthful energy, and deeper sense of purpose.

Bedazzling My Big Book: Because Recovery Deserves Rhinestones

Let’s be real — my recovery is already extra, so it only made sense that my Big Book got a little extra too. I mean, if I’m going to keep this book by my bedside, in my bag, or on display for late-night spiritual crises (or early-morning step work panic), she might as well shimmer. Enter: the Bedazzled Big Book project — equal parts glitter therapy and higher power glam.

Classy Problems: Courage Begins With An Opinion

It’s earned wisdom when we connect that courage isn’t the absence of fear but the willingness to take action in its presence. If we want to be more courageous, we need to focus on developing our willingness. Where does willingness come from? It begins with taking a stand. Taking a stand means acknowledging an opinion.

The Hero’s Journey of a Recovering Addict

As someone in recovery, have you ever thought of yourself as a hero? Yeah, me neither. I tend to be hard on myself sometimes and do not zoom out to see the whole picture of who I have become or what I have accomplished. By studying the Hero’s journey, a timeless storytelling framework, I have learned that we in recovery are indeed heroes. I will be laying out this journey over a three-article series, and I want to invite you along on this adventure. If you are sober today, you are a hero.

See You Wednesday!
