There is this narrative floating around recovery spaces, and honestly everywhere, that says you are supposed to be productive every hour of every day. That rest is laziness. That checking out is relapse-adjacent. That if you are not optimizing, you are failing.

But sometimes, especially when you are living sober and managing the actual weight of your own clarity, you need a night where you do absolutely nothing except watch a fictional family destroy themselves on a basketball court while you float in warm water and smile. That is not numbing. That is resting.
