We are joined again by a leader in the non-alcoholic beer industry, Athletic Brewing. Athletic is known for its wide variety, limited batches, and huge distribution. This week, though, we focus on a beer style that has been missing from many NA craft breweries, and one that has been around in the macro-brew world for ages: Light Beer.

I felt a deep connection with Rich Roll after finishing his book Finding Ultra: Rejecting Middle Age, Becoming One of the World’s Fittest Men, and Discovering Myself. In the forward, he expresses his analysis of what needs to be done to make us better humans and create a more sustainable planet. The bottom line is that we keep looking outside ourselves for a solution that comes from within. Fulfillment, peace, harmony, and health all start from an internal commitment—not by waiting for others to change. Our happiness will never be sustained by searching for the next shiny object. Whether it is a higher degree, booze, drugs, sugar, the new gorgeous girlfriend, success, approval, money, power, or comfort, this ongoing, endless quest for some final destination that will “make us happy” leads us to more longing and endless dissatisfaction. He calls it The Big Lie. 

This week’s Movie Night with The Sober Curator reviews “Palmer,” which recently debuted on Apple TV+ starring Justin Timberlake. Grab your favorite alcohol-free beverage and a box of tissues as you settle in with this heart-wrenching film that will feel like it’s based on a true story. (It’s not, but the way addiction is portrayed is very real) Timberlake, who plays an ex-convict named Eddie Palmer, strikes up a friendship with a boy from a troubled home. Played by Ryder Allen, you will become endeared with young Sam, a gender-confused boy living with his drug-addicted mother in a broken-down single-wide trailer.

Calling all 80’s kids…..How many of us still have The Karate Kid in our Top 10 Favorite Movies list? Who hasn’t been to a Halloween party with a group of guys dressed like this movie?  Finally, 34 years later, we get more “wax on, wax off!” Lucky for us, the writers and producers of Cobra Kai are big fans.  They absolutely did this sequel right by paying homage to past films throughout.  What makes this series fun is that in addition to the original cast, we get the return of Mr. Miyagi’s yellow classic car, excellent 80’s jams, the multi-level ice block break, mini Bonsai trees, Miyagi Dojo, tricked-out Camaros, the Crane Kick, Cobra Kai Dojo, and of course, skeleton suits.  It’s destined to be a hit for this alone.

Mike was a walk-on wide Receiver at Yale from 2001 to 2004, graduating as a history major. Although not an amazing athletic specimen at 5’9” and 150 lbs. Mike already showed a genius mind for the game with his understanding of defensive schemes. In fact, Mike has zero stats as a player but lettered all four years.

In 2005, at 22, he was hired as an intern coach with The Broncos under the great Mike Shanahan. Between 2006 and 2021, he would coach with the Texans, the California Redwoods (UFL), The Redskins (now the Commanders), Browns, Falcons, and 49ers. Finally, getting a head coaching job with the Miami Dolphins in 2022.
