The functional beverage space is booming right now, and it’s no secret that the sober and sober-curious communities are paying attention. Brands are popping up left and right claiming to deliver mood boosts, social energy, and that elusive “buzz without the booze” through adaptogens, nootropics, and mushroom extracts. Some of these beverages contain THC. Some don’t. And for those of us in recovery, that distinction matters. A lot.

Enter Psilly Goose, a California-based brand making waves with their canned functional beverages. They currently offer two products: Euphoria, which contains hemp-derived Delta-9 THC, and Silly, which does not. For the purposes of this review, I went with the Silly. Because, well, I’m sober. And I plan to stay that way.

Guts: The Endless Follies and Tiny Triumphs of a Giant Disaster by Kristen Johnston is an excellent #QUITLIT recovery memoir to add to your home library or must-read list. This two-time Emmy Award winner will take you from tears of laughter to tears of pain. This sober gal truly spills her guts as she recounts the final days and weeks in London that led to her start of her journey in recovery.

Maybe you know her from her famous role as Sally Solomon in “3rd Rock from the Sun”. Perhaps you recognize Johnston from that episode in Sex & the City where she played a washed up party-girl that tragically falls to her death through a high rise window. As you settle in with her story, you will get to know her in a very raw and very real way.

Inspired by a true story, Four Good Days is a painfully accurate depiction of the real-life struggles of heroin addiction. Four Good Days (clean) is what Molly, played by Mila Kunis, needs in order to qualify for a much-needed opiate-antagonist shot that will keep her body from responding to heroin for 30 days. Her mother, Deb, played by Glenn Close, is reluctantly there to support her yet again after enduring over a decade of many (many) failed attempts.

Netflix’s hit series Sirens has made waves. In my opinion, it’s because of the enthralling performance by Meghann Fahy as Devon, the older sister to Simone (played by the always electric Milly Alcock from House of Dragons). Best known for her role as Daphne in The White Lotus (Season Two), Fahy once again delivers a tour de force performance—this time as a woman grappling with her self-destructive tendencies and a tenuous grip on sobriety.

When it comes to the Emmys, one thing’s for certain: glamour is the name of the game, and no one’s playing it safe. Last night’s red carpet was a dizzying display of high fashion and daring risks, where elegance danced with extravagance, and yes, the sober and sober-curious celebs were here to serve up some serious looks. It’s a challenge to cover a night where every outfit is designed to be unforgettable—but some missed the mark by a mile (we’re looking at you, questionable fabric choices).
