Flashback Friday, August 1: Your Weekly Rewind

FROM THE DESK OF THE FOUNDER (that is covered in tchotchkes)
Happy Flashback Friday, Friends! 🎬✨
It’s your curator-in-chief, AB That’s ME, sliding into your inbox with the perfect blend of nostalgia, pop cutlure, and non-alcoholic flair to kick off your weekend. This week’s Sober Sip is serving up hot takes, heartstrings, and a little healthy crafting chaos — because let’s face it, sobriety isn’t just a lifestyle, it’s a whole vibe.
First up, let’s talk about the clawed Canadian elephant in the room: Is Wolverine an alcoholic? Because after watching “Deadpool x Wolverine” with my adult son (a tradition that now involves popcorn for dinner and 3-D glasses), I had feelings. And questions. And possibly a new nickname for Hugh Jackman: Captain Codependency. Captain CoCo for short. #IYKYK
We’re also taking a slow, deep breath with Amy Winehouse in cross-stitch, fangirling over Britney’s brutally honest memoir, packing our bags for Nashville’s “Friends in Dry Places” tour with Hooked on Travel, and rallying the recovery troops for a day of sober pride at the Mariners game this September (bonus points for the free tee!).
So whether you’re craving conversation, connection, or just a moment to pause and say “WOAH” Joey Lawrence-style — this one’s for you. Let’s honor how far we’ve come, laugh at how awkward crafting can be, and keep showing up with full hearts, clear minds, and maybe a little glitter.
Stay weird. Stay hydrated. Stay sober.
With movie popcorn in one hand and a mocktail in the other,
— Alysse Bryson (*AB, That’s Me💋) / Founder / Seattle, WA 🌃

MOVIE NIGHT WITH THE SOBER CURATOR
Is Wolverine An Alcoholic? Exploring Wolverine’s Relationship with Alcohol in the Latest Summer Blockbuster “Deadpool x Wolverine”
As a self-proclaimed superhero aficionado, Disney fan, and Star Wars enthusiast, there’s nothing quite like immersing oneself in the cool embrace of a movie theater during the scorching, sticky summer months. The anticipation of catching the latest flick alongside my adult son, Jakob, for this summer’s blockbuster hit “Deadpool x Wolverine” filled me with excitement and nostalgia. From savoring buttery popcorn for dinner to donning 3-D glasses and eagerly awaiting the trailers, these movie outings have become cherished moments shared with my favorite human. We’ve been going to Marvel movies together for as long as he can remember.

#QUITLIT: “The Woman in Me” by Britney Spears
It’s hard to find a celebrity as misunderstood as Britney Spears. Plagued by paparazzi and invasive interviewers, the negative press surrounding Spears has created an echo chamber of speculation and negativity spanning her 30 years in the spotlight. So, when it was announced that her memoir would be published following the end of her 13-year conservatorship and censorship, Britney fans rejoiced everywhere.
“The Woman in Me,” published in October 2023, is Britney’s testimony — a chance to set the record straight. After over a decade of an abusive conservatorship, censorship, and lack of access to her social media, through which she lost the ability to speak for herself, Britney finally reclaims the power to tell her own story her way.

CURATED CRAFTS
Curated Crafts: Women Who Rock Cross-Stitch — Amy Winehouse
Are you feeling anxious? Does all this excess energy create the need to keep your hands busy? Looking at my nail-bitten cuticles, I need to throw myself into a project that doesn’t involve the news or any screen. And, although I would never consider myself an artist, I love to craft. And no one, I do mean no one, Pinterest fails quite as well as I do! (Especially if baking and cooking are involved, those are stories for another time.)
This is precisely why I decided to take on my first pattern from my Women Who Rock Cross-Stitch Book and create my own Amy Winehouse Tribute. My home décor style is currently overly girlie, eclectic, and honestly a bit too much. Anyone walking into my home for the first time will usually stop dead near the front door and Joey Lawrence out a “WOAH.” It includes a sign that says, “It’s not hoarding if your stuff is cool.” Trust me when I tell you my stuff is cool. At least, to me, it is. My 27-year-old son, aka “the roommate,” may have different thoughts.
WHAT A TRIP!
Friends in Dry Places — Nashville
HI Y’ALL! Welcome to your HOOKED TENNESSEE “Friends in Dry Places” tour! On this tour, we will visit some tourist attraction sites and explore the lives of some fantastic artists! In 2023, we visited only Nashville (which was amazing), and this year, after our emotional visit to STUDIO B, we decided to add Memphis for some Rhythm & Blues (and Elvis’ Graceland, of course), as well as Dollyland, to immerse ourselves in Dolly’s gratitude and kindness. This trip will be full of some rockin’ good times — WE PROMISE!

See You Monday!
