⏪ New Year, New YouTube Rabbit Holes: Flashback Friday’s 2026 Kickoff + The Sober Curator Readership Study ⏪
Less booze. More you. More us.

FROM THE DESK OF THE FOUNDER (*that is covered in tchotchkes)
Happy 2026, you absolute legend. 🎉 If you’re doing Dry January, Sober January, “I’m just trying not to text my ex” January… welcome. We’re kicking off the year with a Flashback Friday that’s basically a sober starter pack: podcasts to hype you up (circa Dry January 2023), events to get you out of your sweatpants (we’re looking at you Miami), science + culture that proves you’re not imagining the recovery culture shift, and the kind of resources that make your feed feel like a warm hug instead of a wine ad. Also: our Sober Curator Readership Study is officially the main character today—because your clicks, cravings, curiosities, and coping tools are literally shaping what we publish next. Translation: you tell us what you want in 2026, and we build it—like sober IKEA, but with fewer missing screws and more serotonin.
Now let’s get to it…

Let’s get this sober party started!
READERSHIP SURVEY
Answer Questions. Win Stuff. 📝🎁Help Shape the Future of The Sober Curator in 2026
We’re always curating sober pop culture with you in mind. But let’s be honest: “with you in mind” only works if we actually know what you want more of. (And less of. And never again. And immediately, please.)
That’s why we created The Sober Curator 2026 Readership Study. It’s a quick survey that helps us understand what’s landing, what you’re craving, and how we can better serve this wildly smart, hilarious, resilient community we love so much.
And yes… we made it worth your while.

SOBER SLOGAN OF THE DAY:
My all-time favorite sober slogan is "Idle hands are the devil's playground," because my brain is a five-star resort for that little red-horned bastard. The second I sit still, he's checking in with a full list of to-dos: I’m gossiping about others and for sure judging them, doom-scrolling my exes' Instagram stories, and "just one quick online purchase" that somehow totals $800. Keeping my hands busy isn't some noble pursuit, it's straight-up self-defense against the unhinged devil jerkoff who lives rent-free in my head. Honestly, in recovery, this slogan isn't motivation; it's a sarcastic public service announcement screaming, "For the love of God, find a hobby before you ruin your life again." I have this baby on repeat when I find myself bored and looking for 'action'.
-Want more sober slogans? How about 365 more + daily reflections, a little dose of humor and a prayer to get you closer to HP. Download Sober City App on the App Store and Google Play - it's completely free to download and use.. You'll be a happier sober sinner!!! -Chris Rosburg, Sober City

Friend Request Podcast: Let’s Talk Dry January! (2023)
Friend Request is not a podcast that’s new to sober stories. Many previous guests are sober and have told their stories on the show, including the creator of The Sober Curator, Alysse Bryson (Episode 071). To celebrate the pop culture staple of Dry January this month, though, every guest on the podcast is sober. Whether it’s the inspiration you’re looking for or just comradery, you are sure to find a story you’ll relate to on some level each week.

SOBER POP CULTURE
The Sober Revolution: How DNA, Pop Culture, and a New Generation Are Rewriting America’s Relationship With Alcohol
The numbers tell a story that Hollywood couldn’t script better: Only 54% of Americans now drink alcohol — the lowest figure since Gallup began tracking in 1939 [1]. For the first time in history, a majority of Americans (53%) believe that even moderate drinking is bad for your health [1]. This isn’t just a statistical blip; it’s a cultural earthquake that’s reshaping everything from TikTok feeds to boardroom conversations, from celebrity Instagram stories to the very DNA tests sitting in our medicine cabinets.
