“Pain Hustlers”: A Hollow Attempt at Tackling the Opioid Crisis

In recent years, the opioid crisis has provided fertile ground for filmmakers to explore America’s most devastating health crisis. Netflix’s Pain Hustlers, directed by David Yates and adapted from Evan Hughes’ book Pain Hustlers (originally The Hard Sell), seeks to join this canon. Yet, despite its clear ambition and flashy execution, Pain Hustlers stumbles, never quite finding its footing between moral inquiry and comedic farce.

The Intersection of Fashion & Mental Health: How ‘Recovery on the Runway’ is Shaping the Conversation

Fashion and mental health—two seemingly distinct worlds—intersect profoundly, often hidden beneath layers of fabric and societal expectations. Fashion is more than just a means of adorning the body; it is a powerful form of self-expression that reflects identity, mood, and personal values. However, the fashion industry, with its high-pressure environment, fierce competition, and often unrealistic beauty standards, can also be a breeding ground for stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.

Death By Fentanyl

The other day, I was browsing my LinkedIn feed and came across an illustration that caught my eye. There were three glass jars, all the same size. Each jar had a black ball inside. The first jar’s ball was big enough to occupy the whole jar. The second jar’s ball was smaller, and the third was tiny. It appeared that the ball in the jars was shrinking over time. A caption underneath the illustration read, “People tend to believe that grief shrinks over time.”

Hubris: The Insidious Enemy in My Recovery

Hubris. It’s a word we often associate with arrogance, with the idea that someone thinks they’re invincible. But in my experience, hubris is far more insidious. It doesn’t roar in my strongest moments; it whispers in my weakest. It creeps in when everything is going right, telling me that I, somehow, can single-handedly mess up everything I’ve built, everything that my higher power has laid out before me.

Is Anyone Scared of Death Anymore?

I just Googled, “What are human beings most afraid of?” I was expecting death to be at the top of the list, but it isn’t. It isn’t even on the list.  What the heck is wrong with people today? Is the world so fucked up that even death isn’t the scariest thing out there? Have people become so desensitized that eternal darkness has been reduced to an afterthought?
