FROM THE DESK OF THE FOUNDER

The Mindful Binge is back, and it got messy fast. I put my TV ride or dies in one room: Lane Kennedy, Patti Clark calling in from Portugal, and Tamar, who for once picked the show. Three shows, three Sobees scores, one labor dispute. Lane tried to file a 4.75. The Sobees run on fulls and halves only. She knows this. She went on strike anyway.

The line I can't shake came out of the "Running Point" conversation. Cam walks out of rehab, tells everyone he's sober, and buys himself a drug test. You can't buy sobriety. Money buys the pee test. It does not buy the time. Lane said it plainer: you gotta put in the time.

Also this week: Aerosmith accidentally invented recovery coaching in the 1980s, and forty years later Stephanie Hazard finally wrote the book on it. Our #QUITLIT review has the Sobees score and the one chapter written for people with decades in. And before you faceplant into pumpkin spice, Anne Marie Cribbin has six Celtic practices for squeezing the last good juice out of late summer. The peaches are still here. Act accordingly.

Now let’s get to it…

You Can't Buy Sobriety: The Mindful Binge Scores "Running Point," "Your Friends & Neighbors," and "Imperfect Women"

The Mindful Binge is back, and it's the messiest one we've done all season. It's also the only one we've done all season. Both things are true.

I got my TV ride or dies in one room: Lane Kennedy, Patti Clark from Portugal, and Tamar, who for once picked the show. Three shows, spoilers for everything, each one scored on The Sobees. Fulls and halves only. Lane tried to file a 4.75 and went on strike. Tamar retained counsel. I reminded them I don't pay anyone.

The line I keep coming back to is from the "Running Point" conversation. Cam walks out of rehab, tells everyone he's sober, and buys himself a drug test. You can't buy sobriety. Doesn't matter how much money you have. You can maybe buy a pee test. Lane put it plainer: you gotta put in the time.

Also on the table: Patti on why it's the codependents, not the addicts, she wants to slap (ever so sweetly). Jon Hamm as a "solid ballast." Perimenopause rage and the neighbor's dog. And a three-way disagreement about Elisabeth Moss that I lost.

Scores: "Running Point" S2, 3.5. "Your Friends & Neighbors" S2, 4.5. "Imperfect Women," 3.5. A three feeling is a feeling.

Go listen. Then hit reply and tell me which one we got wrong. One sentence of evidence, please.
