FROM THE DESK OF THE FOUNDER
Happy Wednesday.
Tana Mongeau says year two of sobriety was harder than year one.
She's right. Year one comes with applause. Year two, the confetti is swept up and it's just you and your life. Twenty years in, I still remember those early years.
This whole issue is people saying the true thing out loud. On the podcast, Paulina Pinsky tells Tamar and me that weed is addictive, and that she spent her twenties smoking every day and calling it medicine. She also played Miss Piggy on Ice in the fourth grade, so yes, we covered the important stuff.
Julianne Griffin, our Sober Swiftie, takes on the people who told her five years on prescribed medication didn't count. (They counted.)
And BACKSTAGE is opening the vault on sober sports.
Now let’s get to it…

Tana Mongeau Says Year Two of Sobriety Was Harder. She's Right.
Tana Mongeau is two years sober, and she says year two was harder than year one. On her Brand Safe podcast, she explains why quitting alcohol was only the start.
SOBER CURATOR PODCAST
Is Weed Addictive? Paulina Pinsky Says Yes, and She Still Loves Miss Piggy
🎧In the fourth grade, Paulina Pinsky was cast as Miss Piggy on Ice. At eight, she was praying to Elvis before skating competitions. By her twenties, she was smoking weed every day and telling everyone it was medicine.
Now she's almost five years sober, writes the Substack newsletters Newly Sober and Process Over Product, and she's our newest Sober Curator contributor, bringing something we haven't covered enough: marijuana addiction. Alysse and Tamar talk with her about Muppets, Graceland, and the rhetoric that kept her high.

Taking Medication Didn’t Make Me Less Sober: A Sober Swiftie on Recovery
For five years, prescribed medication helped Contributor Julianne Griffin build a life in recovery. Some people told her those years didn’t count. Inspired by Taylor Swift’s “I Did Something Bad,” the Sober Swiftie challenges the stigma that turns treatment into something people feel pressured to apologize for.

Why Sober Sports Are Actually Better
The rush beats the buzz.
Golf has the 19th hole. Skiing has après. Every sport comes with a drink attached. In this BACKSTAGE with The Sober Curator panel, three sober athletes on three continents talk about what happened when they kept the sport and lost the drink.
Corey Davis got sober at 22, picked up golf during COVID and went from a 30 index to a 3 in four years. He founded Soba Golf, a community of almost 2,000 sober and sober-curious golfers, and just got back from a Soba retreat in Ireland.
Ben Coombes quit drinking in the one place he knew would be hardest: a ski resort. Now he runs Soberski, alcohol-free ski retreats in the French Alps.
Bianca Criaco leaned on her electric skateboard to get through early sobriety, then raced at Australia's nationals and came in dead last. She called it a win, and so do we.
This is your peek at the conversations we've been having BACKSTAGE. Members get every replay, plus a seat at the next one.
