FROM THE DESK OF THE FOUNDER

Hi friend,

Yes, this is landing in your inbox a few hours late. Wednesday got away from me.

I’d love to tell you it was something glamorous. It was mostly email.

Which makes this week’s podcast feel a little too on the nose: Lynnae Brown on how to stop letting work swallow your whole life without quitting your job. I took notes. Clearly I need to reread them.

Also in here: Amy Liz Harrison’s 26 oddly specific sober moments (the friend who presents a LaCroix like a bottle of Dom is a real person, and you know her), the Texas retreat I still can’t stop talking about, and a No-Drink November calendar that is genuinely stacked.

Better late than hungover.

Now let’s get to it…

UNBUZZED FEED

26 Oddly Specific Sober Situations You’ll Probably Recognize

The champagne toast you didn’t ask for. The dinner bill that includes everyone else’s cocktails. The friend who treats LaCroix like a luxury gift. Amy Liz Harrison finds the humor in 26 oddly specific moments of sober life.

SOBER CURATOR PODCAST

You Don’t Have to Change Jobs to Change Your Experience of Work with Lynnae Brown

🎧 At 40, ten years sober, I had emergency heart surgery. Workaholism is a sneaky one. Nobody gives you a chip for it. They give you a promotion.

So this week’s guest got to me.

Lynnae Brown is a work navigation strategist. She burned out in 2018 running a mental health employment program and couldn’t leave, so she figured out how to stay without losing herself. Her line: you don’t have to change jobs to change your experience of work.

Sarah Alaimo, our sober HR lady, is back too, with the advice she’s given forever: please, please, please don’t leave until you have something else.

Lynnae’s first question for anyone stuck: do you even want the promotion? If not, a lot of what you’re doing is optional. The gala. The extra niceties. The 7-to-7.
